Room Inspiration: A Calm, Comfortable And Stylish Nursery

Having already selected a crib from Restoration Hardware,  a client asked Cocoon to create a nursery for the upcoming arrival of baby .  Her request was to have a space that would be calming, comfortable and not overly baby-fied.  Opting for a neutral palette, mixing rug and bedding patterns, and adding sophisticated furniture will ensure the baby's room fulfills Mom's wishes and be as stylish as she is as well.  Take a look at this week's Room Inspiration and keep posted for its reveal.

Lately, I've been playing with Photoshop and tried it for this post. I'd love to know if you prefer seeing Room Inspiration presented like it is today or more like this?

p.s.:  I will get better at it...

Thanks for taking the time to comment,

Room Inspiration: Florence Broadhurst Wallpaper

Last month, Elle Decor featured an article on Florence Broadhurst.   She was an Australian designer that created vivid patterns for wallpapers and fabrics in the 60's and 70's.  Her unique color palettes and flamboyant designs have made her work timeless and memorable.  I fell in love with her peacock feather wallpaper.  Take a look at how a room comes together around it:

Room Inspiration: A Tribal Rug

Fall's popular patterns are not only taking on animal themes but tribal ones as well.    Vibrantly colored geometric patterns are being applied to throws, pillows, upholstery and rugs.  Take a look at how this particularly graphic one  inspires a living room.

I try not to get too caught up in seasonal trends, but this scarf  would complement my Fall wardrobe nicely.  Having said that, what I would really love to own is this.  Do you think it's too much?!

Are you ready to introduce a few ethnic/tribal prints to your closet or your  home?

Room Inspiration Part 2: Monkey Wallpaper

Originally, this De Gournay monkey wallpaper adorned a dining room in my last Room Inspiration.  It now decorates a teen's bedroom, one with an eye for color and slightly overbearing,  design obsessed parents (who could that be?).  Hung on one wall, behind the bed, this colorful wallpaper creates a whimsical and glamorous setting.  By mixing modern and traditional pieces, the space becomes both classic and current. Take a look:

The Gigi nightstand provides great hideaway storage and a big pop of color.

Blu Dot's full size Nook bed adds a modern touch to the room.

Satellite rug: CB2

The Edland dresser from Ikea has a more traditional  look offsetting the ultra modern bed.

A cluster of West Elm industrial pendants hung in the center of the room replicate the wallpaper's color scheme.

Need I say more......everything old is new again.

Philippe Starck's Bo Chair

Ok, now that you've seen the monkey wallpaper used in two very different settings tell me which one you like best.  Click here to see the dining room.

Can't wait to see your picks!

Room Inspiration: Monkey Wallpaper

Since I haven't been able to get this wallpaper from  House Beautiful out of my mind,  I decided to create a room around it.   Actually, two rooms.  This week you'll see how this paper inspires a dining room and next week how it inspires a child's bedroom.  Take a look:

The weathered veneer of  Bungalow 5's Fairfax table offsets the sheen of the wallpaper.

The textured, circular pattern  in the Meri Drum chandelier (from Oly) mimics the paper pattern.

Crate and Barrel's Passion Flower Plate.

Dahlia placemat and napkin from Crate and Barrel.

Suzanne Sharp's Dippy Orange rug grounds the room and adds a pop of color.

Hans Wegner's wishbone chair softens the lines of the rectangular table with its curvy shape.

Koo de Kir's glossy vases

The Thurston Buffet from Clayton Gray Home adds of touch of glamour to the room, great storage space and a surface area for entertaining.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for a monkey wallpaper inspired bedroom.
