Room Inspiration: Textile Covered Ottoman

Ever since I spied this vintage textile covered ottoman at ABC Carpet and Home, I've imagined  it in front or inside a closet (a walk-in, of course).   In my vision it provides a place to  sit while deciding what to wear or becomes catch-all for a handbag and dress worn the night before.  Take a peek at how that bedroom would take shape:

wallpaper: anthropologie

bed: anthropologie

armoire: South of Market

Ochre Cherub Lap

I like that one would be able to see the wallpaper through the glass.

CB2's metal proof night stands offset the curvy lines of the headboard adding yet another element to the space.

Suzanne Sharp's tibetan, dippy black

Horchow's purple framed mirror adds a dose of drama to any wall.

Multi buckled satchel from Alexander Wang

Do you have a favorite?  Mine:  the ottoman and the multi-buckled satchel.

Room Inspiration

While researching seating for a client, I came across Bokja's, a design duo that creates lively upholstered furniture pieces using vintage textiles.  Their passion to preserve the old by mixing modern furniture and classic accent fabrics makes their work stand on its own.  The above chairs are just two of my very favorites.  Hence,  a "room inspiration" was born.  Check  how a 'bohemian chic' living room was inspired by these beautiful chairs.

Patrizia Sofa from Anthropologie

Emily Todhunter's Fretwork rug.

South of Market antique root coffee table adds texture and oodles of visual interest to any room.  (I want one!)

The colors in this vase perfectly complement the  fabric of the chairs.

Beat Box by Jodi Maas provides coordinating colors for the walls artfully executed.

Floor lamp: Room and Board

This botanical arrangement from the  Little Flower School is just perfect for the coffee table.

Urban Outfitters' pintuck velvet pillows add color and softness to the leather sofa.

Room Inspiration

Each time we visit my parents, our children escape to their basement to ride the mechanical horses my father restored.  During our last trip I stood and watched the delight in my daughter's face and contemplated how much fun it would be to have them installed in her room.  How wonderful it would be for her to wake up and see the two pink horses meant to entertain and delight her and her friends.  So here it is:  if  Zoe had a room of her own the horses would be a big part of it.  Take a look at how the room would look:

Serena and Lily's pondicherry headboard upholstered leaf diamond fabric adds drama to any room.

I like combining geometric and floral prints, so this vintage scarf bedding pairs nicely with the headboard.

The distressed metal of the Urban Outfitters' pier side table complements the bedding perfectly.

I love the colors and tassles in the bedouin rug.  It's a bit small, but at $18 each, you could sew a few together to achieve the right dimensions.

Maine Cottage's double dresser in celadon.

Urban Outfitters' gypsy chandelier gives the room a fun sense of both color and glamour.

A place to cuddle during story time:   Antoinette Fainting Sofa.

John Robshaw's primrose pillow provides color to our scheme.

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday.  Ours was beautifully calm and crazy at the same time.  The house is still feeling its effect. I'm looking forward to resting, playing games, sledding and not preparing any lunches this week!

Room Inspiration

This room inspiration stems from an array of pieces that I've had my eye on for quite some time.   Of course, by now they all have found a spot in my imaginary mansion.  Take a look at how a tassled banquette, a sunset rug and an industrial tool chest can work together to create a colorful,  playfully inviting sitting room.

Above Richard Shapiro's armless banquette is rich in elegance AND warmth.

Ever since I posted Sunset with Angela Adams , I've  been wanting to place this vibrant rug somewhere in my home.  It's both bold and daring and paring it with a warm velvety brown can ground it without taking away any of its dramatic appeal.  Angela Adams

The geometric outline of the bonaire coffee table adds a modern twist to the room.

I don't often match or use full furniture sets in a room,  but I just love the armless banquette and these club chairs together.  The room takes on a 1930's LA glamour feel.

The Thomas Paul maple tree pillow brings the room back to modern day by adding color and visual interest.

Restoration Hardware's industrial tool box console's rough and stuctured form provides contrast to the soft banquette.  Placed behind the banquette or against a wall it will provide yet another element to my imaginary space.

Two hot pink turned wood table lamps on the console offer a pop of color.  Graham and Green

Lastly, From Esty, Moroccan tea glasses for tea or cocktails.

Room Inspiration

This beautiful dress from Flock,  has triggered another room inspiration.  The colors in this dress allow one to wear it from late summer well into fall.  Worn alone, belted or as a  tunic,    you can make this piece your own,  just like you can make a space your own by mixing colors, patterns, and styles. Take a look at how a room could take shape:

A yellow leather chesterfield sofa from Anthropologie sets the scene for this playful living room.

A series of  hand painted butterflies from Bungalow 5 line a wall.

This chair complements the sofa perfectly by adding a punch of playful color and texture.   From Richard Shapiro Studiolo.

I love the elegance of this French Deco coffee table from Crate and Barrel.

Anemone cocoa rug from Marni for The Rug Company.

John Robshaw's Crewel collection is a mix of traditional and modern embroidery.  A great pillow for the chairs or  the sofa.

Ochre's warrior lamps work well with the metal of the coffee table,  adding yet another element to the room.   Place them on  side tables or a console.

Hope you enjoyed my latest room inspiration.  Please check out  Cocoon's Facebook page.  Join if you haven't  and/or  suggest it to your friends.

One last thing......for all you local readers you must go to Flock.  It's an amazing collection of beautiful clothes, accessories and jewelry.  All merchandised in a nature-inspired,  playful yet sophisticated style.
