Decisions, Decisions: A Fabric Change

Our yellow Saarinen Womb Chair that once sat perfectly in our Cambridge house now looks awkward among our California color palette of blues, greens and pinks.  In order for one of our favorite chairs to "fit in", a fabric change is in order.  Starting off with a handful of fabric samples to consider, we narrowed our choice to three favorites.  Take a look at the contenders:

Which one do you think made the cut?  (No pun intended).

1.  Vibrant blue that brings out the cool tones in the rug.

2.  Bold pink to provide a little funk and a pop of color.

OR

3. Dusty rose to complement the brickwork.

Room Inspiration

While researching seating for a client, I came across Bokja's, a design duo that creates lively upholstered furniture pieces using vintage textiles.  Their passion to preserve the old by mixing modern furniture and classic accent fabrics makes their work stand on its own.  The above chairs are just two of my very favorites.  Hence,  a "room inspiration" was born.  Check  how a 'bohemian chic' living room was inspired by these beautiful chairs.

South of Market antique root coffee table adds texture and oodles of visual interest to any room.  (I want one!)

The colors in this vase perfectly complement the  fabric of the chairs.

Beat Box by Jodi Maas provides coordinating colors for the walls artfully executed.

This botanical arrangement from the  Little Flower School is just perfect for the coffee table.

Urban Outfitters' pintuck velvet pillows add color and softness to the leather sofa.

Before and After: Family Furniture Gets a New Look

Cocoon Home Design recently helped re-upholster several pieces of furniture that were in a client's family for generations.  With that in mind we wanted to maintain the integrity of the pieces but update them with interesting fabrics.  Above are the fabrics we chose.  Below are the before and afters.

The dining chairs are different styles so we decided to use different fabrics that worked well together.  The frames of the chairs are traditional but the fabrics are not.  Giving the room a bit of a twist.  All the fabrics coordinate so that any future moves or renovations in the home won't affect the placement of the furniture.  Next we are working on paint colors for the living room, dining room and reading room with the extra long lounge.  We'll have more before and after photos soon.  Let me know what you think.

ikat, geometric, and metallic pillow fabrics

Welcome to Cocoon's blog. A place to find inspiring design elements, ideas to simplify your home, updates on Cocoon Home Design projects and an occasional confession about my many obessions.  I'll begin with my latest...

Pillows.  It use to be chairs that got me in trouble but now that our home is as furnished as it can be, I've turned to smaller upholstered items.  I just bought some new fabric to recover existing pillows.  Its a great way to update your space, keep current with the seasons, and satisfy that "need" for change without breaking the bank.  Just waiting for them to be sewn.  Keep posted for the reveal.
